Congratulations to all those involved with the local community group SNGSA (St Nicholas Green Spaces Association), who saw the fruits of their hard labour opened to hoards of appreciative children in April.

The playground is one of the green spaces surrounding St Nicholas Church at the southern end of Dyke Road, which were all once graveyards. With the help of local authority funding the SNGSA organised the renovation of the existing run-down playground, including refurbishing the old-fashioned swings which, in the surveys of local children the group conducted before the work began, were universally demanded to be retained. The playground was officially opened by The Mayor, Councillor Ann Norman on Saturday 24 April and there were many other grown-ups in attendance, including Green Party leader, Caroline Lucas and ex-councillor Francis Tonks. As soon as the Mayor cut the tape, the children showed their appreciation the only way they knew how – by rushing forward as one to climb up poles, hang onto ropes and generally explore the wonderful installation.
