Music for Violin, Viola, Cello by Orlando Gibbons, J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Bartok played by Stuart Deeks, Ellie Blackshaw, Ben Hess

We find great satisfaction in making music together, in particular playing pieces that have both heart and craft in their composition. Such music can be felt to have a deep and beneficial effect. It could be called a healing quality.

Along these lines, high points of our varied individual experience includes Ben playing the cello for Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sunday in the Park with George,’ and Stuart playing Bach cantatas or Beethoven’s Ninth symphony on period instruments. And Ellie Blackshaw is a delightful musician, inspiring teacher, and fine performer in many concerts that I (Stuart) have played in or listened to. I especially remember her performances of music for violin and piano by Bartok and Janacek.
