Following last year’s successful run of ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ at BOAT, the Brighton Shakespeare Company was founded by Mark Brailsford, the Artistic Director of Dyke Road’s Rialto Theatre, and founder the satirical revue, ‘The Treason Show.’ BSC’s aim is to bring the cream of Brighton’s characterful comedy talent to the works of William Shakespeare and to make the canon more accessible and entertaining to modern audiences by being faithful to the writing genius of the Bard himself. The company will present ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ at BOAT in Dyke Road Park between 10-14 August. See full information at brightonshakespearecompany.co.uk where you can also find details of an interesting approach to raising funds to pay the actors for their work in both ‘Much Ado’ and ‘Macbeth’, which will be produced and shown at the Rialto later in the year.
Through the Kickstarter.com website enthusiastic ‘angels’ (backers) of BSC are able to pledge different amounts of money which will result in different rewards for them and, importantly, contribute to the salary fund for the actors. ‘Angelic’ rewards vary according to the amounts pledged, from £25 all the way up to £3500, and include tickets, name in the programme, invitation to the opening/closing night parties, appearing in the play, social media acknowledgement, headline sponsor advertising.
