CELEBRATION
Did we mention that it’s our 40th birthday this year? We’re pouring over plans to celebrate in style. Last year’s Christmas party was a sell-out and this year entrance to the celebrations on 10 December will be the hottest ticket in town. It’s a strictly first-come, first-tickets affair so do look out for them when they go on sale at Bright News in November.
Before that, WHCA will be hosting a Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday 19 November from 12pm in West Hill Hall. There will be a selection of some fantastic crafters providing a truly eclectic array of crafts and gifts. There’s one stall left if you are interested in having it. Email Dorothy at westhillhall@gmail.com for further details, including images of your work.
Having had such a great turn-out for the inaugural event in our new series of bi-annual talks in April, the Autumn event on Tuesday 11 October will see Jayne Shrimpton presenting her fascinating talk, “A Moment in Time: Census-era Dress, 1801 – 1911”. We know what people looked like at a given point in time, this talk opens a window onto the era and helps us to visualise daily life in the past. Drawing on prints, paintings and photographs dating from around each decennial census, 1801 – 1911, Jayne introduces both fashionable and working dress for men, women and children.
