Most evenings are busy with a variety of activities but two local residents, Anna Burtt and Bob Sells, spotted some gaps in the daytime schedules and have filled them with activities in which they are interested and want people to join them.
Bob is organising Scrabble on Wednesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Just turn up and join in.
Anna started a 9-week Creative Writing course on Fridays from September. It is fully subscribed now but do look out for the next course as it is proving to be very popular.
Yoga at the Hall with Steph
I offer traditional Hatha yoga classes at West Hill Hall. The sessions start with some tuning in and Sun Salutations. There is a varied sequence of postures worked through with breath awareness. Each posture is taken mindfully, with breath connection, and at your own level, depending where you currently are in your own body and practice. I include mudra (hand gestures), and sometimes incorporate an awareness of the Chakra energy centres.
The class builds an awareness of your body and breath. It improves flexibility and strength for good health, as well as finding calmness and stillness for the mind. In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali says the purpose of yoga is Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha, which means yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. The session offers this space for connecting, calming, and simply being.
The classes are suitable for any ability. No need to pre-book, you are welcome to just turn up. Bring a mat if you have one. The price is £6 to drop in, £5 concession. They run on Tuesdays 9 – 10.15am, Wednesdays 6.15 – 7.30 pm and Fridays 10.15 -11.30am.
