Dear Lizzie ,

Since the redevelopment of the station plaza – some years ago now –  and the re-deployment of taxis to the back of the station ( a good thing ) the following things are affecting our immediate environment.
(i) Outside our house cars drop people off in order for them to go to Brighton station . I would guess there are at least 50 – 100 drop offs per day  .
(ii) Outside our house cars wait to pick people up from the station  –  this can be worse as they are often there for 10 + minutes and many have the engines running .
(iii) Outside our house taxis wait to pick people up or drop them for the station.
In short the area at the bottom of Guildford Road is a de – facto ” official ” drop off and pick up point for Brighton Station .
I have to ask why ? Why should we take the stations traffic?   There is a massive area at the front of the station where people should and could be dropped . It’s now unused. This is also a problem for Surry Street.
Since we moved here 20 years ago we have lost our rubbish collections , recycling collections and now have 7 horrible bins 10 meters from my front door . Add to this the fact we are now the station drop off zone and it’s just so different to what is was . I was once a smart looking neighbourhood and now it’s a mess frankly.
In the 7 minutes while I have been typing this there have been 2 pickups and 1 drop off . When it gets to early evening there can be as many as 4 cars there at once .
So  –  are you going to help me sort this situation out ? However as I said this traffic is the stations responsibility and not the residents of Guildford Road’s responsibility .
I look forward to your thoughts .
Best Wishes
Richard and Bronwen Partridge
NB now a large white Range Rover has pulled up  –  it’s a pick up not a drop off .

Support A Good Cause – Cabs for Jabs

The Covid vaccination program is great, but is causing problems for the elderly and most vulnerable who are anxious about making the journey by bus or cannot afford the cost of a taxi.

Streamline Cabs and Radio Cabs have joined to create a GoFundMe page to provide Cabs for Jabs, aiming to generate funds to provide taxis for free to those who need them most.

View From The Hill: Nicholas Lezard

As I write, it is a gloriously sunny afternoon, but for some reason, the first day’s play at Hove County Cricket Ground of a three-day match against the touring New Zealanders has been scheduled. This is a bit irritating for everyone who had been planning to go, whether […]
