Overtraining, overworking, traumas and stress can all drain your adrenals, to the extent that this may affect your performance and your health. Do you rely on coffee, sweet foods or a hectic schedule to push you through the day? Or perhaps you have low energy, or hyper energy, aching muscles or joints, low blood pressure, low sex drive or find it difficult to deal with stress. If you carry on in this direction, you run the risk of not just poor sports performance, but also chronic fatigue, hormonal problems ranging from infertility to depression and a host of other health problems.

Welcome to Roger and Caroline

Dragonfly Clinic, built by Roger and Caroline Horlock, long-term residents of the area, is located at the bottom of the West Hill. You can find this bright and beautiful studio at 1 Queen Square near the Clock Tower.

Dragonfly Clinic has been providing expert knowledge in rehabilitation and sports massage, running a popular sports injury practice for many years in Brighton. Add to that over 7 years’ experience in teaching Pilates in Brighton and London, the quality of the teaching is very high. The classes are small with a maximum of 6 people so there is no overcrowding in the studio and everyone gets plenty of time to work with, and learn from, their teacher. Courses run throughout the year with regular workshops at weekends and holidays. There is something for everyone whether you’re a lady of leisure and looking for a new interest with a beginners Pilates class or an athlete looking to enhance your training, with courses for runners, cyclists and swimmers.

To keep up to date with the latest goings-on you can sign up to their mailing list via the website www.dragonflyclinic.com or join them on Facebook at Dragonfly-Clinic.

Chinese doctor dispels eating myths

A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it…don’t waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiency. What does cow eat?  Hay and corn.  And what are these? Vegetables.  So steak is nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system.  Need grain?  Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give you 100% of recommended daily allowance of vegetable product.

A natural alternative to HRT

Herbal Medicine has become a popular, safe and effective alternative for women with debilitating menopausal symptoms, particularly in the light of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study of 2002, which suggested that health risks may exceed benefits during prolonged hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

The effect of the initial publication of the WHI resulted in a decline in HRT use of around 50% in the UK. Recent research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA, one of the world’s foremost medical research centres, states that “the study of alternative therapies for menopause symptoms is a rewarding and important area deserving of further inquiry”. The NHS is also listing several herbs in their leaflet on alternative therapies for the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
