If you have not already done so in September, you still have the rest of October to join in a foodie appeal, Love Food Give Food, where Brighton & Hove restaurants invite their customers to take action against child hunger simply by eating out. Supported by a multitude of culinary luminaries including Raymond Blanc, Giorgio Locatelli, Valentine Warner and Marcus Wareing, Love Food Give Food unites food lovers who are turning their passion for food into action to help malnourished children and their families worldwide.
Joining restaurants across the UK, Brighton restaurants have been supporting Love Food Give Food by giving customers the opportunity to add a small donation to their bill or offering certain dishes where a percentage of the cost goes to Action Against Hunger. In response to the on-going food crisis in East Africa, the aid agency has launched one of their biggest humanitarian responses to date, implementing life-saving programmes in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.
Customers also have the chance to win 26 free meals for 2 by collecting four stickers on their Love Food Give Food loyalty cards by eating out at participating restaurants before the end of October. Loyalty cards are available from participating restaurants, which include Carluccios, Due South, Riddle & Finns, Graze, The Regency Restaurant, and Little Bay. Emma Cullingford, Campaign Manager at Action Against Hunger, said: “In 2010, food lovers, chefs, restaurants and cafes helped raise over £170,000 in aid of our life-saving programmes. With the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa, we’re encouraging all food lovers to help make this year’s Love Food Give Food appeal the biggest ever and raise crucial funds for our worldwide programmes.”
To get involved, simply enjoy a great meal at participating restaurants and as a result help families feed their children in some of the world’s poorest countries. £1 can help a farmer to produce enough rice to feed his family for four days; £10 can buy a market gardening kit for a family including seeds and tools; £36 can provide a month’s complete home treatment for a malnourished child.
