Brighton Old Town

In November, councillors on the economic development and culture committee released for public consultation, a 50-page document, “Old Town Character Statement”  which details the Old Town area’s history and heritage assets. Brighton residents and businesses were asked to get involved in ensuring Brighton’s historic heart is protected and enhanced, as the document and survey will serve as an assessment of what is important about the area, to guide future planning policies and decisions. Centennial

Fabrica Gallery, 40 Duke Street, Brighton

On Thursday 11 September (1-4pm), Fabrica gallery, in collaboration with arts and heritage organisation Strike a Light, will be hosting a free and specially created event Centennial. Forming part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days free events across England and Wales, this is an afternoon drop-in to commemorate the beginning of the centenary of World War I.

It profiles and examines aspects of our experiences of the war through the use of diaries, moving image, wartime songs, creative workshops, and talks, exploring our shared and personal memories relating to the war, and the stories with which we were left. Continue reading Centennial

Relativity

Relativity is a free day-long event at the Fabrica gallery on Tuesday 6 December 11-4pm about the theme of the family, including films, creative workshops, talks, story-telling and family portrait drawing. It is aimed at all, but especially older members of the community. Some transport is available for elderly groups – please get in touch with Nicola Benge on 778646 or email office@fabrica.org.uk to arrange this or to book for larger groups.

Also on 6 December from 6-8.30pm at Fabrica there will be a film showing of Mid-Summer Lunch, a quirky screening chronicling a food-filled nonagenarian sleepover, catered for by the only cast member under 60! Come along after work or after the event for this cosy event with sofas, cushions, cocoa, mulled wine and nibbles for the entry price of £1!
