Wish us luck as you wave us goodbye

Well, it’s happened, and we’re coming out. Whether we like it or not, the future of the (currently) United Kingdom will be independent of the European Union. On a personal note, I was hugely disappointed with the conduct of both campaigns: it seems to me, that the cases that were presented were, at best, misleading, and at worst, downright lies. It saddens me that our political elite have such a low opinion of the great British public (or an over-inflated sense of their own importance) that they cannot, simply, tell the facts – as far as they may be known – and not make dark threats, or promises that can never be fulfilled. Much Ado about Fundraising

Following last year’s successful run of ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ at BOAT, the Brighton Shakespeare Company was founded by Mark Brailsford, the Artistic Director of Dyke Road’s Rialto Theatre, and founder the satirical revue, ‘The Treason Show.’ BSC’s aim is to bring the cream of Brighton’s  characterful comedy talent to the works of William Shakespeare  and to make the canon more accessible and entertaining to modern audiences by being faithful to the writing genius of the Bard himself. The company will present ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ at BOAT in Dyke Road Park between 10-14 August. See full information at brightonshakespearecompany.co.uk where you can also find details of an interesting approach to raising funds to pay the actors for their work in both ‘Much Ado’ and ‘Macbeth’, which will be produced and shown at the Rialto later in the year. As a result, I will comment on the potential effects of Britain leaving or staying in the EU, specifically relating to the monetary aspects and investments. 2016 Budget Summary

It is always an interesting time when the Chancellor of the Exchequer rises on Budget day, as we wonder what the speech will hold for us mere mortals. Often, the Devil is in the detail.  In this recent Budget, it seems that there is not a great deal of Devil in comparison with previous years. Beelzebub, it seems, is lurking in some of the other recent announcements, but more of that later. Continue reading 2016 Budget Summary

Keep Calm and Carry On Investing

Hooray! 2016 is upon us, and has provided us with the worst start to a year ever recorded on the London Stock Exchange. “Marvellous!” I hear you say, “Buying opportunities!” Broadly, I am inclined to agree. I see little point in crying into one’s choice of small libation, bemoaning the fall in share prices. If such falls have so dramatic an effect on an individual, then that individual should not have been invested in shares in the first place. Continue reading Keep Calm and Carry On Investing
